International Removals to Netherlands From the UK

Your belongings leave your UK home in a Pask’s Removals van and travel door to door to your new address in the Netherlands.

Plenty of people moving from Britain still call the country Holland. Strictly, Holland is just two of the twelve Dutch provinces, North and South Holland, home to Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague. We deliver beyond them too, Utrecht included.

We work out of Eltham, SE9, and collect from any address in London or elsewhere in the UK. The sections below cover part loads, Dutch customs relief, timings and what to expect in the big cities.

House Removals to the Netherlands

From a one-bed flat to a family house, our house removals team handles the whole move. We protect furniture with covers, dismantle beds, desks and dining tables before loading, and reassemble them in your Dutch home.

Want the packing done as well? Our Pack and Move service packs the house for you before loading day.

If your Dutch keys arrive after your UK completion date, your belongings can wait in storage at our depot until the new home is ready.

Office Removals for Your Dutch Workplace

Opening a Dutch office or relocating a team? Our office removals crew moves desks, IT equipment, filing cabinets and archive boxes from your UK premises to the new workplace.

We can start from 6am or work evenings and weekends, so packing and loading fit around your trading hours. Office furniture and equipment aren’t covered by the household customs relief, so we’ll go through the paperwork for a business move when we quote.

Part Loads and Dedicated Vans for Dutch Moves

Smaller moves to Holland usually suit a part load, and full homes tend to suit a dedicated van. We recommend one after the survey, based on your volume and how fixed your dates are.

Part Load

Your furniture and boxes travel with other loads heading for Dutch addresses, and the price is based on the volume you send. It’s the usual choice for a flat, a single room or a student move, provided the delivery date can be flexible.

Dedicated Van

A whole van is booked for your move, and you pick the collection and delivery dates. One crew handles both ends, loading in the UK and unloading at your Dutch home, which makes it the quickest option for a full house or a fixed key date.

Customs Basics for Moving to Holland From the UK

Since Brexit, household goods going from the UK to the Netherlands cross a customs border. Most people moving house can still bring them in free of import duty and VAT under Dutch Customs’ relief for household effects, when three conditions are met:

  • 12 months outside the EU: you have lived outside the EU, for example in the UK, for at least 12 months in a row, and you are now making the Netherlands your home.
  • Six months of use: the goods have been yours, and in use, for six months or more.
  • A 12-month window: the goods are imported within 12 months of you taking up residence in the Netherlands.

How the Claim Is Made

You can’t claim the relief on your own. Dutch Customs only accepts it through the removal company’s import declaration, so your documents come to us with the paperwork for the move. Customs asks for:

  • a signed inventory listing everything you’re bringing
  • your certificate of registration with the Dutch municipality, showing the date you settled
  • until you have that certificate, proof of leaving your previous country plus a Dutch rental or mortgage contract, employment contract, employer’s statement or work permit

Dutch Customs decides each claim and we don’t give tax advice, so check the full conditions on its website before fixing your dates.

How Long a Move to the Netherlands Takes

From UK collection to Dutch delivery, a dedicated van normally takes 2 to 4 days. A part load takes longer, usually 7 to 14 days, because it travels with other Netherlands moves. Both are estimates, and we confirm your delivery window when you book.

Most moves follow the same order, starting four to six weeks before moving day.

Stage When What happens
Survey and quote Four to six weeks before moving day A video walk-round of your home, your written quote and the choice of part load or dedicated van.
Paperwork Before collection You sign the inventory and gather proof of your Dutch address or job for customs.
Collection Moving day in the UK Packing if you've booked it, furniture taken apart and the van loaded.
Delivery After the journey to the Netherlands Unloading into the right rooms and reassembly of the furniture we took apart.
Registration Within five days of arriving You register in person with your municipality if you're staying longer than four months, then send us the certificate for customs.

Questions About Removals to Holland From the UK

Yes. We’re London based and collect from addresses throughout the UK, not only in the capital. Give us your collection postcode and your Dutch address with your quote request.

As market context, the comparison site Sirelo estimates UK to Netherlands removals at about £850 to £1,500 for a one-bed flat, £1,600 to £2,200 for a three-bed house and £2,500 to £3,500 for a five-bed house. They’re third-party averages from a page updated in August 2026, not prices from Pask’s Removals. Volume, a part load or dedicated van, access at both ends and packing all shape your own figure, so it can sit above or below these.

Allow 2 to 4 days from collection to delivery with a dedicated van, or 7 to 14 days with a part load. Book four to six weeks ahead where you can, because the quote and the customs documents both need time before moving day.

Usually, yes. If you’re moving a studio, one room’s worth of furniture or a few larger items, a part load means you pay for the space your belongings take rather than a whole van. The trade-off is a wider delivery window, so it suits moves with some give in the arrival date.

Not if you meet the conditions for customs relief on household effects. The main tests are a year or more of living outside the EU, at least six months of owning and using the goods, and bringing them in within Customs’ time limit after you settle. Alcohol, tobacco, commercial vehicles and professional equipment beyond portable tools are excluded.

Your goods can still travel. Dutch Customs lets the relief be applied for without the registration certificate in some cases, as long as the missing documents follow as soon as possible. If you’ll live in the Netherlands for more than four months, you must register in person within five days of arriving, and the government warns that appointment waits can be longer than usual.

Alcohol in your household goods is charged import duty, and tobacco may only travel if it carries valid Dutch excise seals. Weapons, narcotics, counterfeit goods, endangered species and some animal products are restricted, and pets follow their own rules. Don’t pack chemicals, flammables, soil, leaking liquids or open food either.

Yes. Our Eltham depot has 24-hour CCTV behind a gated entrance, and the units are clean, dry and insured from collection to redelivery. Keep the customs clock in mind, because goods must arrive within a year of you settling in the Netherlands to qualify for relief.
