What Goes into Your Moving Quote?
A quote from Pask’s is a calculated, itemised figure based on a video survey of your home. Here are the main factors that determine your price.
1. Volume and Inventory
The amount being moved is the primary cost driver. A two-bedroom flat for a minimalist costs significantly less than a two-bedroom flat packed with heavy oak furniture. At Pask’s, we carry out video surveys via WhatsApp or Zoom to get an accurate inventory before we quote, so nothing is overlooked and you’re not paying for capacity you don’t need.
Practical tip: Clearing your loft and garage before the survey can reduce your quoted volume and bring the price down.
2. Team Size and Labour
The complexity and size of your move determines how many crew members are needed. A standard three-bedroom home typically requires three to four professional movers.
Specialist items, upright pianos, large American-style fridge-freezers, heavy safes, require additional equipment and handling time, which is reflected in the quote.
3. Access and London Architecture
West London mews houses, East London high-rises, and North London Victorian conversions all present different challenges. Key access factors include:
- Stairs and lifts: A fourth-floor flat with no lift takes longer to load and unload. This is factored into every quote.
- Parking: We recommend booking parking suspensions with your local council at least 10 working days before your move. In boroughs like Greenwich and Islington, failing to do so can result in fines or significant extra time if the crew has to carry items from further away.
4. Packing Services
Full packing is our most popular add-on. It typically adds £250 to £600 to a standard move and includes high-quality double-walled boxes, bubble wrap, padded covers for TVs and mattresses, and bespoke crating for fine art or antiques.
One important note: full transit insurance is usually only valid when our team packs the items. If protecting your belongings fully matters to you, professional packing is worth factoring in from the start.
London-Specific
Costs to Factor In
Congestion Charge (2026)
From 2 January 2026, the London Congestion Charge increased to £18 per day. If your move passes through the Central London zone, this will be included in your quote.
ULEZ Compliance
The Ultra-Low Emission Zone covers all of Greater London. Our entire fleet is 100% ULEZ compliant, which means we do not pass the £12.50 daily ULEZ charge on to you. Some older man-and-van operators cannot say the same.

Specialist Item Costs (2026 Estimates)
| Item | Estimated Extra Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Upright piano | £140 – £480 | Depends on stairs and floor level |
| Grand piano | £280 – £950 | Requires specialist equipment and 3+ crew |
| American fridge freezer | £80 – £150 | Often requires door removal |
| Fine art / large sculptures | £100+ | Custom timber crating included |
| Safe / heavy machinery | £200+ | Heavy-duty dollies and floor protection |
How to Keep Your Moving Costs Down
- Move mid-week: Friday is the most expensive day to move. Tuesday or Wednesday can save 10 to 15% on the base price.
- Avoid month-end: Demand peaks at the end of the month when tenancies turn over. Moving in the second or third week gives you more flexibility and often a lower price.
- Pack non-fragile items yourself: Ask for a fragile-only packing service. You pack clothes and books; we pack china, mirrors, and electronics.
- Source free boxes: Local Facebook and Nextdoor groups often have double-walled moving boxes going spare. Check the condition carefully before using them.
